Room with a view

Good morning (Sunday here). It was dark before we finished eating dinner last night and I hard a hard time sleeping until my alarm this morning because the crack of dark is really early here.

The Internet is spotty – I have WiFi but not Internet, so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to actually post this report…breakfast starts (and our hectic day) in about half an hour and then we leave the Appolo about an hour and a half after that (9:00 Siliguri time). Oh, and we had Leap Second last night (yes, I was up and set my watch accordingly).

Today we split into two groups: Bob, Marcia, Anna and I go to one house church (either Atal or Tokoria); and Andrew, Gary, Katie and Jarrod go to the other. Jarrod and I are preaching, and Anna and Andrew are leading singing (I think…) Our hope is to send pictures and hopefully some audio after these experiences so that can be shown/played at TACC in service on the 30th.

After our church visits, we go to Merry View. Bob and I will be meeting with the SAS leaders there. My job is to ask “pithy” questions (now to make sure I understand what “pithy” means.) I think we all spend some time with our interpreters there too.

Dinner at the Appolo Hotel

image

Here we are at dinner in the restaurant at Hotel Appolo. We have ordered (Chinese) and are waiting for the food to arrive. You may notice that Pastor Bob is missing – he is upstairs trying to get Katie and Anna’s door fixed. Two hotel rooms, two nights, and two door problems for the girls. Katie got stuck in the room and almost didn’t make it to dinner.

We will just rest for tonight, but tomorrow we will split into two groups and go visit house churches. Should be a great Sunday!

Hotel Appolo

We’re all checked in. We’ve had a couple of meetings already and Bob is just starting another with the SAS guys. We’ll be eating dinner in a bit and I hope to get some updates with pictures by then (or at dinner)…but wanted to let you know we’ve arrived at Siliguri and are unpacking and settling into our home away from home for the next week and a half.

Thanks for the prayers – keep them going!

And the view from my window…

Not to try to better or anything, but here’s the view out my window

The view from my hotel window

image

This is the view from my window in the Hotel Saptaguri in Delhi.  Yes, the window is that dirty, but the street is quite noisy with activity as people on foot, on bikes, and in cars go honking by. It’s about 6:30am and time for me to get in the shower and get ready for the day.  We go back to the airport at 9am for our final flight at 11am for Bagdogra and then on to to Siliguri by car (bus?) .  After 3 doses of antibiotics and lots of Mucinex I am feeling a lot better and should be completely better in a couple of days. Thanks for all the prayers!

Delhi

We landed at Indira Ghandi Airport just about 24 hours after we left Orange, CA. We’re all checked in to our rooms after a pretty short drive (in 3 taxis) to our hotel. Now to take a hot shower (surely Gary will leave me some) and get a few hours of sleep before we go back to the airport to take the final leg of our flying to our destination.

Thanks for the prayers! Everyone and all our luggage are at the hotel…

We’re in Amsterdam!

Well, that was the longest flight I have ever been on.  But a big thank you to Kristie Koontz for the support socks and to Pastor Bob for the antibiotics -both made the flight much more pleasant.  Now we are sitting in the Amsterdam Airport wanting for our flight to Delhi.  Time to head back to the gate!

LOOONNNGGGG flight…

You know those cool maps that show the whole world and where the sun is and isn’t shinning? We flew at the top of the day/night boundary the whole way. The sun was setting for most of our flight.

We’re about to land in Amsterdam (“it’s about time!” says my rear end…)

KK, we’re at our gate, waiting for flight to Delhi..

This is an interesting airport experience. Walked done steps from the plan into a bus (but if stairs are good enough for the President…) Can’t find any power to recharge from… Bob and I have been through the body scanners, but the rest are behind us and it looks like security is on a union break or something… They’re calling for Jarrod and Andrew to come to the desk, but they are still on the other side of security screening and there’s no way Bob and I can get through the sea of humanity between us and th desk… God will work it out!

Countdown switched from days to hours…

…less than a day till we head to LAX and then spend 2 days in airplanes and airports, as we make our way to Siliguri!

Please pray that we have an eventful trip – that we see God work mightily – not only in the lives of the Adivasi, but in our hearts as well.
